featuring Hilary Castle on violin, Catherine Gregory on flute, Alice Yoo on violoncello, & David Kaplan on piano.
Stonington violinist Hilary Castle has a habit of returning to the Boro with intriguing, gifted colleagues. They invariably bring fascinating scores to share with us.
The stirring Handel-Halvorsen Passacaglia (v, vlc), Bohuslav Martinu’s angular, rhapsodic Trio (fl, vlc, p), and Ástor Piazzola’s iconic Libertango (all four) build a first half of splendid contrast and color. In the second part they’ll retune our senses with Philippe Gaubert’s evocative Trois aquarelles (fl, vlc, p) and “Things seen right-to-left, without glasses” (v, p), by that odd genius Eric Satie. The quartet close with a rare modern-instrument realization of the Trio sonatafrom Bach’s heady Musical Offering (fl, v, continuo). How can you not come?!
