Sonority Sings Shakespeare through the Centuries

Sonority women's quartet presents a program of choral compositions, some arranged by the group, which draw on lyrics from his plays, including The Tempest, Twelfth Night and Hamlet.

The program features songs set to music from Shakespeare's time by Morley, Johnson and Jones, as well as later settings by Purcell, Stevens, Cooke, Nares, Wood and Schubert, and includes a set by contemporary New York City composer Matthew Harris.

Stonington resident Jonathan Post, UCLA Distinguished Professor, author, and founding Director of the UCLA Summer Shakespeare Program in Stratford and London, will speak about Shakespeare and music, how song texts were set into the plays and the relationship of texts to their settings.
