Artist Workshop with Marija McCarthy

Due to unforeseen circumstances, tomorrow's Artist Feedback Workshop with Marija McCarthy has been postponed to next Friday, January 27th, 10am to noon.  We hope to see you there!

Practicing painters in a developing stage who feel a need for temporary tutorial help from a professional artist and art educator are invited to gather at the La Grua Center for a discussion and feedback workshop.  Artists should bring a few of their paintings (any medium) as samples for discussion with Marija. Cost is $25 per person.

A painter and educator, Marija Pavlovich McCarthy was trained in Belgrade, Serbia and at George Washington University and the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC. She has lived and exhibited in the US, Europe, Asia and North Africa and her works are in the permanent collections of the Belgrade Museum of Art, the New Britain Museum of American Art, two Presidential collections, US Congressional collections and hundreds of corporate and private collections.

She currently shows at the Copley Society of Art in Boston as well as with the following organizations of which she is a signature member: the New England Watercolor Society, the Connecticut Watercolor Society and the New Haven Paint & Clay Club. She has taught art for decades, starting in the 1960’s at her own Alma Mater, the Corcoran School of Art, and then at the Maryland School of Art and Design, the Art League of Virginia in Alexandria and many other schools. Most recently Marija taught for seventeen years at the Washington Art Association in Washington, CT. She has juried art shows at the Kent Art Association and other venues and given group art critiques for art associations throughout Connecticut.

In the Fall of 2010 she had an exhibit titled: “A Look at the Past” a selection of paintings from 1985 to the present at the Minor Memorial Library Gallery in Roxbury CT. In December 2010, she opened a show in the Contemporary Arts Center in New York City of oil paintings titled “The Shape of Water”. These paintings depict the artist’s involvement and love for the various bodies, states and dynamics of water through the seasons. In May 2013, she curated a show of her students “Fifty Years of Teaching” at the Minor Memorial Library.

Currently, Marija concentrates on studio painting, exhibiting, tutoring advanced painters individually and lecturing on art.
