Stonington Harbor Yacht Club continues their summer tradition of PHRF “Vespers” Racing Series on Fishers Island Sound. These races begin on June 30th, 2017 and continue every Friday evening through September 1st. All racers meet at 5:00pm at the Stonington Harbor Entrance, handicapped yachts are welcome to participate and there is a separate start for Ideal 18s. Participants are welcome to return to the SHYC club house after the race for drinks and dinner. The series participation fee is $35. Register online at shyc.us or call 860-535-0112 for additional details. Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) is a handicapping system used for yacht racing in North America. It allows dissimilar classes of sailboats to be raced against each other. The aim is to cancel out the inherent advantages and disadvantages of each class of boats, so that results reflect crew skill rather than equipment superiority. PHRF is used mainly for larger sailboats (i.e., 7 meters and above).
Stonington Harbor Yacht Club is open year-round and offers a variety of activities both on and off the water including educational programs, arts and entertainment nights, family fun and fine dining. We are proud to welcome new members and showcase all the club’s many offerings. For more information about membership, contact Katie Canning at firstname.lastname@example.org.
