The Stonington Singers, directed by CT's 2016 Choral Conductor of the Year, Ellen Effman-Gilbert, is an auditioned choral ensemble from Mystic Middle School. Students from this ensemble have been involved in the ACDA Connecticut and Eastern Division Honors Choir, the CMEA Children's Honors Choir and the Eastern Region Music Festival. The choirs have performed several times by audition at the Connecticut State Music Educators In-Service Conferences as a guest Honors Choir. This group has received platinum ratings for the past 11 years at the Great East Music Festival in Agawam, MA. Recently, the choir premiered the piece "Yo Puedo" by Grammy nominated composer, Jim Papoulis. Most recently they performed the Connecticut premier of Paul McCartney's oratorio "Ecce Cor Meum" with the Eastern CT Chorus and Symphony and were the guest artists of "Tono Dolce", one of eastern Connecticut's premiere adult ensembles. The MMS Select Choir can be seen performing at local community events such as the Cabin Fever Festival and the beloved Stonington Borough Holiday Stroll.
