Michael aka "Skip" McKinley has released two CD albums The Executive Session and Fairytales and his own band, Executive Session is about to release the third titled Live at La Grua. He plays a 10-keyed granadilla wood flute made in London circa 1850. The sound is quite different than that of the contemporary silver flute and is reminiscent of the clarinet or oboe. Early influences came from playing the sax in a stage band and listening to Jimi Hendrix.
For this concert, Skip has invited the sensational new band Daymark. Daymark is an international trio performing traditional Irish music infused with infectious energy, raw power, and Northern swagger. Fusing the talents of Will Woodson (flute, border pipes), Dan Foster (fiddle) and Eric McDonald (guitar, vocals), the group presents a classic blend of wind and string as driving flute meets virtuosic fiddle, underpinned by well-considered and expertly delivered guitar.
