Stonington Dinghy Club & Stonington Harbor Yacht Club Co-sponsor Center for Hospice Care Benefit

For over 25 years, sailors in southeastern Connecticut have sponsored local regattas to raise funds and awareness for Hospice.  This race continues that tradition.  It starts at 6 pm on Wednesday, July 17, in Stonington harbor and is open to any boat 20’ or less. No advanced registration or fees are required.

According to Tucker Bragdon, Founder of the Stonington Dinghy Club, “We have organized Wednesday night races during summer months for 51 years.  We’ve offered dinner at the Wadawanuck Club following the race for 30 years.  We enjoy encouraging and supporting this community of small boat sailors.”  Then he added two interesting details.  “All the Race Committee for this event are women, and there are members who have belonged to the Dinghy Club Committee for all 51 years!”

Following the race (around 7 pm), awards will be given out, dinner is available and there is an opportunity to make donations to Hospice occurs - all at the same time.

Stonington Harbor Yacht Club joined as a supporting sponsor in 2014 and has been given an award for raising the most funds for Hospice three years in a row.  Help set a new record this year by donating at this event or online at

Summer races help secure crucial funding for Hospice and provide support for patients and families who are experiencing life-limiting illnesses.  Fundraising events also enable Hospice to offer bereavement support for anyone, regardless of whether family members have been treated by Hospice or not.

Traced as far back as the 4thCentury AD, hospice care today serves patients diagnosed with a life expectancy of six months or less without charge.  Patients are encouraged to consider both hospice and palliative care services early, since they improve overall quality of life when struggling with serious illnesses.  For more information, go to
