On Assignment with National Geographic

From Stonington Garden Club: Michael Melford, globetrotter and National Geographic photographer will speak at La Grua Center, 32 Water ST, Stonington, CT on Wednesday, April 18 at 6:00 PM. His talk "On Assignment with National Geographic" will feature the images and stories behind the makings of magazine articles.

Melford's assignments have focused on conservation, preservation and celebrating the beauty of wilderness and national parks around the world. He has produced more than eighteen feature stories for National Geographic magazine and more than 30 for National Geographic Traveler, including nine covers. He has also been featured in many books and produced three on Alaska for National Geographic.

From Chile to Cambodia, Tanzania to Tibet … Melford's 35-year career has captured many of the natural and manmade wonders of the world. When not shooting for the magazine, he enjoys sharing both his love of nature and extensive knowledge of photography as he inspires people to care about our planet.

Photography and conservation buffs will have an opportunity to see rare images and hear from a leading expert on National Geographic photojournalism. The lecture, hosted by the Stonington Garden Club, is free and open to the public. The Stonington Garden Club's objective is to educate and encourage interest in the environment, conservation, community projects, and to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening.
